Potamia | Thassos

Potamia is located in the east of the island and is 10.5 km SE from the city of Thassos and took its name from the dozens of small “streams” that cross it and are due to the excess water of the wider area. According to the 2011 census, it has 1,383 permanent residents . The village is built on the slope of Mount Ypsario, the highest mountain of the island. In many parts of the village, stone houses have been preserved. Also in the settlement there is the old primary school, today’s Vagi Museum, which houses exhibits of the Greek-American sculptor Polygnotos Bagis . In the cafes of Potamia you can enjoy not only your coffee, but also traditional pastries. Famous is the Carnival of Potamia which is organized on the last Sunday of the Carnival and gathers people from all over Thassos village has restaurants and hotels.
